many people are afraid to connect their wifi extender to their router. Why? Because routers can be hacked and some people have had their wifi detail compromised. If you’re worried about your data, fear not! There are a few simple steps you can take to make sure your wifi is protected and your wifi extender is connected.

Range Extender Setup in Windows

Step 1:

In order to setup your range extender for the TL-WA750RE and TL-WA850RE models, the online administration page is the most efficient method. By connecting your range extender to an Ethernet network, you will be able to visit the online control page. (An Ethernet wire is included with each range extender box. )

Before you begin, be certain that your range extender is operational and will stay operational during the procedure. Once the range extender has been powered up, connect one end of the cable to the Ethernet connection on your laptop or desktop PC, and the other end to the Ethernet connector on the range extender itself.

Please keep in mind that even if your laptop or desktop PC is not capable of connecting to a wireless network, you may still connect your range extender to your computer. Locate the Ethernet cable that connects your router to your PC and remove the end of the wire that is linked to your computer. And after that, just connect it to the range extender. This will enable an Ethernet connection to be established between the range extender and the PC.

You may also use a wireless connection to configure the range extender in this manner. TL-WA854RE does not have an Ethernet port, hence the wireless connection must be used to finish the setup. You must first browse to the wireless connection list on any wireless device (such as a laptop, tablet, or smartphone) and connect to the default TP-Link network by selecting it from the drop-down menu.

Note: Please disregard the multiple TP-Link_xxxxxx entries in the window above, you should only see one TP-Link wireless network name (SSID) in the available connections list.

Once a direct Ethernet connection has been established between your computer and the range extender, be sure to disconnect from any wireless network that your computer may be connected to.  This will only apply to laptops and/or desktop PCs that have wireless capability.

Below is an example of how to disconnect from a wireless network in Windows 7.

In Mac Os

During this time, your computer will not be able to connect to the Internet. The online administration page for the range extender, on the other hand, is still accessible since you are directly linked to the range extender via your computer.

Step 2 :

After you have disconnected from your wireless network, use any web browser on your computer to surf the internet (Internet Explorer [Microsoft Edge on Windows 10], Google Chrome, Mozilla FireFox, Apple Safari). Then, in the address or URL bar at the top of the browser, enter in tplinkrepeater.net or tplinkextender.net, depending on the version of the browser you’re using. (Which one you use will be determined on the kind of range extender you have).

Step 3 :

If the login process is successful, the following window will show in your browser’s window. The username and password should both be admin.

It is recommended that you erase the domain tplinkrepeater.net/tplinkextender.net from your address bar if your login attempt with it is unsuccessful. Alternately, you may input the following IP address: 192.168.0.254. (This is the IP address assigned to the range extender by default.) Access to the same login windows as those seen above will be available through both the domain address and the default IP address.

Once an Ethernet connection is established between your computer and the TP-Link extender, you will be presented with the login window shown above. If you are using a Mac computer to configure the TP-Link extender, the login window will appear immediately after the Ethernet connection is established between your computer and the TP-Link extender.

Step 4 :

You will see the following popup when you have successfully signed into your range extender. (The same online administration page will be shown for all range extender models, including the TL-WA750RE, TL-WA850RE, and TL-WA854RE.)

  • Select Next within the middle section of the web management page.
  • Select your nation or area.
  • Check or choose your personal wireless network from the list.

Note: If your main router’s wireless network name is hidden or you have disabled the SSID broadcast on your wireless router, please select Set SSID and MAC Manually.

  • The window for Manually Setting the SSID and MAC Address is shown below. (You will be required to manually input your wireless network settings in the next section.)
  • Enter your wireless network password.
  • The range extender will broadcast the same name as your current wireless network if you pick Copy from Main Router/AP in the same window. In order to specify a custom wireless name for the range extender, click Customize from the menu. Copy from Main Router/AP is the preferred option. Select NEXT when you’re done.
  • Please review your settings to ensure all the information is correct and then select FINISH.
